If you think a gas flood expert is expensive, just wait until you hire an amateur

Flooding and especially gas flooding are not for beginners. There are so few flood engineers that really know what they're doing with gas floods.

For example, one company I know was operating a gas flood. I met their sole young flood engineer. He had completed a university project on gas flooding. And it was very inexpensive to hire him.

However, there's much more to gas flood engineering than a school report. Apparently he didn't know how to get the flood to make money.

The company ended up in receivership. We could have saved it.

It's really very costly to hire inexperienced people.

What about other operators experimenting with this?

Many other operators are trying the lean gas injection experiment. Some are claiming very high recovery factors. One is trying it in a carbonate.
