Seismic interpretation released to public domain
This mature water flood needs a new injector according to the operator. In his very thorough 400 page application, he disclosed stream line plots, pattern diagrams, depositional models, and even seismic interpretations. We found this information using AppIntel.
Didn't you know? Haven't you heard? If you submit technical information to the regulator, it is in the public domain the minute you submit it.
This operator doesn't realize that submitting too much information can actually slow down the approval process. Since the regulator reviews every piece of information you submit, applications with extra information take longer to read and approve.
Not only that, but the more information you give the regulator, the more likely it is that they will find some noncompliance in your project. You expose yourself more to enforcement.

We read between the lines in the regulations.
Giving too much information gives away information about your pool to offsets and competitors. If you give away your seismic, your offsets can see it. If you give away your cross sections or net pay maps, your competitors can exploit them.
Use this to your advantage
There is some good news in all this. Because some operators submit large volumes of information, you can learn a lot from their applications.
For example, you may find a detailed historic application about your property. You may find former operator's analysis and interpretations that don't show up in the well files you received.
Or there may be a very detailed application about a property you are considering for purchase. You can use the application to look for upside in your acquisition target.
Each AER application contains your neighbor's perspective on the exploitation of oil and gas formations. Applications contain more technical interpretations than you'll find anywhere else.
Would you like to see what other operators in your areas are thinking about seismic, multifractured wells, polymer schemes and recovery? AppIntel can help.
