Monitoring casing failure using passive seismic systems

Like this Apollo 11 moon experiment

Apollo 11 passive seismic experimentThe operator of this huff and puff project is using passive seismic systems to monitor casing failures. He hopes to identify any possible failures early to prevent flow to surface.

Similar passive seismic systems were placed on the moon by Apollo 11.

He includes a discussion of his technical and economic review to decide which pads should be monitored with passive seismic.

Passive seismic systems are installed to listen only -- no charges are set. A geophysicist interprets the measured seismic activity to determine which frequencies might indicate a casing failure.

Use of this type of monitoring, along with differential pressure and daily review of injection volumes will hopefully prevent flow to surface events.

The technology discussed by this operator is already known to some of the more established operators. But for newer thermal players, the notes and discussion will prove very helpful.

The AER expects the latest technology on dealing with risk issues. The only way you can stay up to date is to read applications. Appintel is the best and fastest way to get them.

Each AER application contains your neighbor's technology for the exploitation of oil and gas formations. Applications contain more technical ideas even than SPE papers.

Would you like to see what other operators in your areas are thinking about seismic, commercial schemes, experimental schemes and recovery? AppIntel can help.
