N-CHOPS stands for...
CHOPS was popular in the nineties. But after only recovering 4% of bitumen in place what's next?
Without AppIntel can you find such applications. You can use AppIntel to search through all AER applications for chops nitrogen
How else would you find them?
One operator is injecting hot water and nitrogen in to an old CHOPS field under huff and puff. She expects to double recovery.
See all her plans in her AER application. Download it from our self serve portal.

Huff and puff
Inject steam into a well, let it soak, and then produce the well. That's huff and puff. And a more scientific name is Cyclic Steam Stimulation or CSS.
Some Alberta operators are running advanced CSS operations. Some inject steam in rotating well patterns. Some use horizontal wells. Some chase steam from well to well in a wave pattern.

But rather than steam, this operator is injecting hot water and nitrogen into a bitumen formation. Then she plans to produce the upgraded bitumen back. You can see all her theory and all her forecasts in her application documents.
The easiest way to get her application documents is through AppIntel.
CHOPS
Cold Heavy Oil Production with Sand was popular in the nineties.
Using progressive cavity pumps, operators produced heavy oil along with unconsolidated sand from the formation. No in situ heating was involved in CHOPS.
But after about 4% oil recovery, CHOPS was finished.
Life after CHOPS
People have tried several things to get more bitumen out of post-CHOPS reservoirs.
The prize is big. Old CHOPS reservoirs are cheap to buy. If someone successfully gets more out of these old fields, the reserves add will be inexpensive.
Some have tried conserving gas into the depleted wormholes in post-CHOPS formations.
In other locations, operators have injected propane or a methane-propane mixed solvent.
Find them all with AppIntel
Each AER application contains your neighbor's perspective on the exploitation of oil and gas formations. Applications contain more technical data even than SPE papers.
Would you like to see what other operators in your areas are thinking about seismic, commercial schemes, experimental schemes and recovery? AppIntel can help.
