If you need a pipeline application approved, this may be the most important news you read all year
How do you make sure your pipeline application is approved and not closed? Pipeline application closures are happening more all the time.
The closure rate on pipeline applications has been on the rise over the last 3 months. In April, 10% of pipeline applications were refused. But so far in July over 18% were rejected by the regulator.
For example, one operator had his pipeline application closed after a 9 month deliberation.
His application was for a pipeline upgrade and includes modifications to several pump stations along the line. Stake-holders' concerns and other objections dragged this application along for more than 9 months. In the end it was refused by the regulator. All that work -- no approval. We found this information using AppIntel.
You can see all their preparation including noise level assessments for the application. Application documents show issues the regulator will not ignore.
Closure and approval time statistics are only available in AppIntel. AppIntel is a web based data service that allows you to find out how many applications were closed. It also shows how long it takes to get applications approved.
Wouldn't you like to know whether your application will take a month or a year to approve. Won't that help you with your project time line?

Read closed applications
The best way to prevent closure is to read other closed applications. At Proven, we read five closed applications for every application we submit. Closed applications clearly show what the regulator rejects and why they reject it.
On three quarters of submitted applications, the regulator calls or writes with questions and concerns. Handling these is like handling horses. If you know what you're doing and how to handle them, you get a smooth ride. If you don't know how to handle them, you can get kicked and thrown -- your application could be closed and you could end up on the noncompliance list.
Because regulations change, you really need to look at recent applications as well as the guidelines and checklists. Otherwise, you're likely to get a surprising application closure.
